We are exploring grantmaking foundations to approach to build their endowment fund that is to financially sustain UDService's community-supported programs. The Ferree Foundation awarded them $30,000; the 1675 Foundation $25,000 for their endowment and the Seven Trees Foundation awarded them $5,000 for their endowment 2 years in a row. DCED awarded them $17,000 for the CHOICES program; and Lancaster Community Foundation $10,000 for case management. Our proposals to the PA Developmental Disabilities Council for $180,000 for 2005 & 2006 and $159,000 for 2007 & 2008 were both successful. A $20,000 proposal to the High Foundation, a $10,000 proposal to Lancaster Community Foundation, $15,000 from the Clark Corporation Corporate Giving Fund, $8,700 (in 2006) and $2,680 (in 2007) from the Hackett Foundation, $10,000 from the Laura J. Niles Foundation; $8,990 from the Christopher Reeves Foundation, $7,500 from the Steinman Foundation; $3,000 from the Berkshire Charitable Trust; $2,500 to the Special People in Need Foundation;$2,000 from the Abigail Longecker Foundation, $1,500 from the Weyerheuser Foundation and $1,000 from the Wachovia Foundation were all successful, and another foundation just awarded them $3,000. Our sixth renewal contract with this client extends until September 2009.

We are working on finding new funding partners for this client, under contract for the past 5 years. Slifer House Museum, Lewisburg, PA:
We are applying for grant funding for general operating support to carry on Slifer House's dual goals of preservation and education, and funding for museum upgrades to qualify the museum for National Historic Landmarks status and accreditation by the American Association of Museums. The Sheary Foundation awarded them a $45,000 grant in their 2005 funding cycle & $9,000 in their 2008 cycle; the Woodcock Foundation for the Appreciation of the Arts awarded them $10,000; IMLS awarded them a $7,500 Museums for America grant. Union County Tourism Promotion awarded $7,000 in 2006; $11,000 in 2007; and $6,143 in 2008; Sovereign Bank Foundation another $2,500; PA Partners for the Arts another $2,500 in 2007 and $999 in 2008; and Union County Community Foundation $500 in 2005 and $1,000 in 2006; $500 from the Lewisburg Lindig Foundation and $500 from the Degenstein Foundation. Their fifth year renewal contract extends until September 2009.
SUNCOM Industries, Northumberland, PA:
This contract was renewed for a fourth year until November 2008. We are doing a series of grant proposals to raise funds for various capital and operating needs for this disabilities initiative. Access Services, Fort Washington, Orwigsburg, and Bethlehem, PA:
Access became a client July 1, 2005, and renewed with us for two additional years. We are working on strengthening their competitiveness for grant funding and doing grantwriting for them for numerous programs using a list of foundations they identified, and have received $400 from the Snayberger Memorial Fund thus far for our efforts.
Zerbe Township, Trevorton, PA:
We are into our 3rd year with this client and applied successfully to DEP for a $44,600 Recycling grant, and a $12,500 DCNR playground grant for a Master Site Plan for their recreation complex. We prepared a CDBG proposal that resulted in a $61,779 grant award in 2006 and a second CDBG competitive discretionary grant for road repairs of $73,718 in early 2007. Two DCED proposals resulted in a $10,000 and a $5,000 grant. We are assisting with Grants Management as a part of our renewal contract assignment, and reapplying for additional CDBG & DCED funding.

Geisinger Health System/Child Advocacy Center of the Central Susquehanna Valley, Sunbury, PA:
We prepared a successful proposal to the Degenstein Foundation for a $30,000 in Seed Money of this new 3-county initiative. We helped to develop a financial sustainability plan, and outcome evaluation methodology for this new multi-county, multi-disciplinary initiative, and prepared a successful PCCD federal concept proposal for $67,000 to hire and train a forensics interviewer team which was renewed for another $41,000 in Year Two, and $20,686 in Year Three following a second and third proposals we prepared. We prepared a successful proposal for a $57,000 Legislative Initiative Discretionary Grant to subsidize a mental health component to the response effort. We prepared two successful proposals to the National Children's Alliance for $50,000 in program development funding and $10,000 in training funding, two successful abuse prevention grant applications to Radio Shack Foundation, a successful grant proposal for $15,000 from the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation, $5,000 to Gateway Health; $4,000 from the Apple Foundation; $5,000 from the Office of Victims' Rights; $5,180 from First Federal Charitable Trust; $500 from the Guyer Foundation; as well as six formal Inquiry Letters to various foundations. Our commitment to this client extended until December 2005, when the GMC Development Office took over the grantwriting.
Southern Alleghenies Conservancy, Bedford, PA:
A six-month contract July 1 to December 30, 2005, we did foundation research and letters of inquiry for them for general operating and special project funding needs.
Rachel Carson Trail Conservancy, Warrendale, PA:
We did foundation research and prepared an extensive campaign of Letters of Inquiry to an exhaustive list of Western Pennsylvania environmental grantmakers. The body of work was completed by June, 2005.
United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, Pittsburgh, PA:
We looked for grantmakers interested in medical research and prepared a few grant proposals for this short-term 2005 client with national reach. They received a grant of $5,000 from the Knudsen Foundation in the short campaign. We were filling in until an Executive Director could be hired.
Allied Arts Fund, Harrisburg, PA:
Under contract for all of 2005, our assignment was a 'no-stone-unturned' effort to uncover new funding partners for this nonprofit who already raises over $1 million annually to re-grant to Dauphin County arts organizations, to foundations to build their endowment fund and for general operating expenses. The Fund received a $50,000 DCED Pennsylvania Tourism grant for a Route 15 Artists and Artisans Trail program during our assignment.
Venture Training, Inc., Harrisburg, PA:
We composed twice-monthly press releases, January to July 2005, and distributed them to all Pennsylvania newspapers, business journals, and legislators, in an effort to advocate for state SEA program funding to continue to support this worthwhile entrepreneurial training initiative. That campaign was successful, and the program was written back into the approved PA State Budget.
People for Progress Coalition, Mount Carmel, PA:
Our volunteer involvement with this non-profit extends back over 10 years, although formalized in 2004. They received a $10,000 DCED grant; $7,500 Verizon Foundation and $2,000 Degenstein Foundation grant from our proposal campaign.
Glory Gym, Gettysburg, PA:
We designed a website that accepts on-line donations for this at-risk youth program that is centered on Olympic-style boxing, and wrote a series of monthly press releases that are targeted to approximately 300 Pennsylvania newspapers. In addition, we approached 10 foundations in their behalf with grant proposals to raise funds for operating costs and the purchase of their building. A grant proposal we prepared resulted in an $11,520 Hoffman Foundation grant award.
Helen O. Krause Animal Foundation, Mechanicsburg, PA:
We worked to find new grantmaking foundations to support the operations of this no-kill animal shelter. We received a $4,000 Build-A-Bear grant for them for the effort.
Future Visions, Arkansas:
This Arkansas-based Mind-Body-Medicine holistic healing initiative recently hired us to research appropriate grantmakers for their programs, to help them develop the components of a powerful case statement, to mentor a new grantwriter in their office, and to edit their proposals before they submit them.
Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit, Montandon, PA:
We prepared proposals to the Staples Foundation, and the First Federal Charitable Trust, Braitmayer Foundation, and Wachovia Foundation and the Harley-Davidson Foundation, in an effort to secure foundation funding to extend federally-funded programs.
Shamokin Area Community Hospital, Shamokin, PA:
Our assignment involved a campaign to a variety of foundations that we researched for this client, making initial contacts, proposals, and beginning new funding partnerships that their development people will maintain into the future. They received a $15,000 Verizon grant after one of our proposals.
Mental Health Association of Central Susquehanna Valley, Bloomsburg, PA:
We prepared proposals to a number of foundations to support their Kids ComPeer initiative and the education and advocacy portion of their mission. We wrote the proposal that resulted in a $28,000 Continuing Support grant for them from Berwick Health & Wellness Foundation and a $3,500 grant from the Degenstein Foundation. Our commitment ended in mid 2004, although we continued to assist them on a pro bono basis.
Northern Columbia County Community Center, Benton, PA:
P&AF worked with the Columbia County Housing Corporation and the community non-profit to conduct a Feasibility Study to determine the long-term sustainability of a new proposed community center in Benton in preparation for successfully applying for a DCNR state grant for $150,000 and $600,000 from the Republican Caucus.
East Cameron Township, Shamokin, PA:
We did a series of state grant proposals to help the township purchase some needed heavy equipment and playground renovation. We secured a 1% loan for them for the equipment; a $3,000 Degenstein Foundation grant; and a $21,600 DCNR grant to rehabilitate their playground.
Lacawac Sanctuary Foundation, Lake Ariel, PA:
We did long-range strategic fundraising planning, foundation research, and a campaign of grant proposals asking foundations to assist them in achieving their mission of hosting scientists and educators and facilitating communication among researchers who use the Lake as a pristine control in their research. The Sansum-Elligator Foundation awarded Lacawac $10,000 based on a letter of inquiry we composed and $2,500 from the Allerton Foundation during our 6-month assignment with them. Their newsletters let us know that other grants we initiated were awarded since our contract ended.
Philhaven Behavioral Health, Mount Gretna, PA:
We composed the primary 'Case Statement for Support' in preparation for a major Capital Campaign, and augmenting that campaign with an exhaustive foundation grant research to uncover new funding partners for this residential mental health facility, that they will use to prepare grant proposal in-house.
South Central EMS, Harrisburg, PA:
We did foundation research and wrote and edited grant proposals in an attempt to raise funds for equipment upgrades and building repairs. They were awarded $15,000 from DCED, $5,000 from the McCormick Family Foundation, and $5,000 from the Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Foundation from the effort.
Central Susquehanna Opportunities, Inc., Shamokin, PA:
Signed in July 2004, they renewed their contract with us through June 30, 2006. We did grantmaking foundation research, editing grant proposals for their in-house grantwriter, and composing and distributing press releases.
Pennsylvania Environmental Council, Harrisburg, PA:
Another second year renewal client (through June 06). We did research into appropriate foundation, corporate and governmental grantmakers for the PEC's many projects and for general operational support, and editing and polishing the proposals generated by their 5 offices and development department, with grant awards too numerous to list!
Mount Carmel Borough Recreation Commission, Mount Carmel, PA:
This was a June 2004 through May 2005 client. We applied for funding for renovations to a soccer field and other quality of life capital projects in the borough, and assisting them in finding an appropriate fiscal agent. They received a $2,500 grant from the Degenstein Foundation.
Health Link Services, Sharon, PA:
A client with us from November 2005 to October 2006, we were charged with looking for scholarship money for their medical services training programs for this start-up. They received a $5,000 grant from the John Nesbit Reese Foundation.
Katie Stauffer Memorial Arts and Cultural Center, Quakertown, PA:
We did foundation research and prepared grant proposals to raise project funding and general operating support for this brand new initiative, for all of 2005 and 2006. They received a $9,000 Legislative Incentive grant from DCED; a $2,500 Grundy Foundation grant; a $2,500 grant from the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation, $3,000 from the Bucks County Community Foundation and a $1,792 grant in 2005 and $1,094 grant in 2006 from the Philadelphia Cultural Alliance.
Coal Township Municipal, Coal Township, PA:
We prepared a successful $310,035 DEP Recycling grant for this client and a successful $43,350 DCNR state grant for playground renovations on Mulberry Street.
Susquehanna Valley House of Hope, Danville, PA:
We did Board development, strategic planning, and foundation research and grant proposal enhancements for this client all of 2006. In addition to a Strategic Plan, they received $25,200 from the Merck Foundation, $10,000 from the John Family Foundation, $3,000 from Berwick Health & Wellness Foundation, $2,500 from the Degenstein Foundation and $1,000 from the Whipple Foundation.
Girl Scouts of Penn's Woods Council, Wilkes Barre, PA:
We are doing foundation research and grantwriting November 2006 through April 2007 to assist this Council and three others in affording a merger to become a new 30-county entity.
Samaritan Counseling Center, Lancaster, PA:
We worked with this client July 2006 to June 2007 doing a foundation grant campaign. During the campaign, they were chosen as a 2006/2007 recipient of the GlaxoSmithKline Impact Award and the $40,000 grant that accompanies that honor, and received a $5,000 grant from Verizon.
Alpha House: God Provides for Homeless Men, Mountain Home, AR:
We applied for state, federal, and foundation grants targeted to after-prison initiatives, drug-&-alcohol rehab, and general operating funding for this faith-based homeless shelter. They received a $10,000 grant from the Sturgis Foundation and a $21,200 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor in 2005, and a $50,150 expansion grant and $25,000 renewal grant in 2006 from the U.S. Department of Labor; plus a $1,000 grant from the Twin Lakes Foundation. This contract was renewed for a third year, running through September 2007.
Conservancy of Southwest Florida, Naples, FL:
We did research into foundation, state, and federal grant opportunities for this client and editing and pre-judging of their proposals through January 31, 2007.
Berks Counseling Center, Reading, PA:
This client contracted with us July 2006 to June 2007 to work on a foundation grant campaign. The campaign netted them $7,500 from First Federal Charitable Foundation, a $5,000 DCED grant from Senator Rhoades, and a $5,000 grant from Highmark.
Kindness, Inc., Mountain Home, AR:
We signed this client for the 2006 calendar year, based on a glowing recommendation from another Arkansas client, and they renewed for a second year. We did grantwriting and foundation research. The campaign resulted in the following grants: $16,500 from Baxter International Foundation; $10,000 from the Carl B. and Florence E. King Foundation; and $1,000 from the Special People in Need Foundation.
Upper Bucks YMCA, Quakertown, PA:
This client contracted with us May 2005 to April 2008 for us to assist with a foundation grant campaign and compose a case for support for their capital campaign. They were awarded a $3,000 Bucks Community Foundation grant.
Family Design Resources, Harrisburg, PA:
This client contracted with us July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008. We worked with the on a federal ACF proposal that is currently pending.
YMCA of the Upper Main Line, Berwyn, PA:

The Verizon Foundation awarded them $9,600; the Komen Foundation awarded them $2,500, and the Lindig Lewisburg Foundation awarded them a $1,000 grant.
